Understanding Freshly Brewed Coffee: When to Enjoy It
Why Does Degassing Matter?
The Sweet Spot: 2 to 3 Weeks After Roasting
How to Store Your Coffee for Maximum Freshness
Proper storage plays a vital role in maintaining your coffee’s freshness for longer. Follow these tips:
Use an Airtight Container: Protect your beans from air exposure to preserve their flavour. Our Airscape® range of storage canisters are a great option.
Keep Them Cool and Dry: Store coffee in a cool, dark place away from heat and moisture.
Freezing: You can freeze whole beans, but you must use vacuum-seal bags or airtight containers to prevent moisture absorption and freezer burn. We would recommend single-dose portioning and grinding straight from frozen. If you allow a portion to thaw, do not put it back in the freezer. If you consume your coffee within 3-5 weeks of roasting, freezing is not necessary and may cause unnecessary condensation risks.
What Happens After the Peak?
Coffee doesn’t "expire" like other foods, but its flavours will gradually fade over time. While you can still brew and enjoy coffee past the 4-week mark, you might notice a loss of complexity and vibrancy. To experience coffee at its finest, aim to use it within 3 to 4 weeks of the roast date, and even 4-6 weeks for our dark roasts like Cafe Classico and The Calm Before the Storm. For even longer-lasting freshness, store your coffee in an Airscape® storage canister, which protects it from air, light, and moisture, keeping the flavours locked in for longer.
