Many immediately think of Arabica when they think of quality coffee but did you know that there are over 100 coffee species? However, the two most cultivated species of coffee in the world are Arabica and Robusta.
ARABICA COFFEE
Arabica coffee is the most popular in the world and is what we use for all our coffee. Arabica coffee is known for its chocolate, nut, berry and fruity flavour notes. With all this flavour, it's no surprise that Arabica contains twice as much sugar than Robusta. Arabica also has less caffeine which may sound negative but too much caffeine results in a bitter taste.
ROBUSTA COFFEE
Robusta is the second most popular coffee in the world. It is often described as earthy and bitter and is largely used for instant coffee. However, high-end Robusta coffee has been said to add depth to the flavour and, in the case of espresso, enhance crema.
